Following the discovery of numerous deceased fish in the Indrayani river, environmental activists congregated at the Visarjan Ghat in Pimple Gurav to honour the departed fish. This solemn gathering, prompted by growing concerns regarding pollution in the Pavana and Indrayani rivers, served as a poignant acknowledgment of the environmental challenges confronting the region. The distressing sight of lifeless fish drifting in the contaminated waters has prompted alarm among local communities and environmental advocates.

This incident underscores the pressing need for comprehensive action to combat pollution and preserve the well-being of the rivers and their inhabitants. Through their tribute to the deceased fish, activists aimed to raise awareness about the harmful impacts of pollution on river ecosystems. The commemorative event took place at the Ganesh Visarjan Ghat in Pimple Gurav and was organized by Dilasa Sanstha, Human Rights Protection and Awareness, and the Environment Conservation Committee of Pimpri Chinchwad.

Recent reports highlight a notable surge in water hyacinth proliferation throughout various zones within the Indrayani river basin. This growth impedes the movement of fish to higher water regions where aquatic life flourishes. Consequently, fish are compelled to dwell in areas characterized by reduced aquatic biodiversity, amplifying their susceptibility to water pollution. Additionally, in-depth analysis exposes a significant reduction in oxygen levels within the Indrayani river water, accompanied by a troubling increase in nitrogen concentrations.
